Looking after our physical, mental and emotional health has never been more important. If the last two years has taught us anything it must surely be that life can change in an instant and that finding ways to support ourselves is the key to building resilience and finding a path through what we must deal with in our day to day lives.
Many people have found solace in wild water swimming and joining in with online Yoga, Pilates or whatever activities appeal to them.
Online classes are great and many of us are really motivated when we start these activities but, despite our very best intentions, life often gets in the way and enthusiasm can wane quite quickly.
We all think that we know what works for us and we let off steam in the same old ways, some healthy and some not so beneficial for our physical or mental health. However, even if people have spent years trying to find something that can ‘fix’ habits and behaviours that get in their way, I have never met anyone who hasn’t benefited from taking a moment to focus inwards. Many of us have lost that connection to what I always refer to as ‘gut instinct’ but the growth of what used to be called ‘alternative therapies’ is an indicator that people are looking for new and positive habits to build into our daily routines.
One of my dearest friends describes me as ‘the acceptable face of woo-woo’ which used to make me laugh but I find that more and more people are developing an interest in different ways to support themselves. The truth is that we all must go with what works for us and we are all unique. I have absolutely no doubt that wild swimming, and running are amazing and powerful empowerment techniques, but they are not for everyone.
I am convinced that it would be hard to find anyone who would not benefit from relaxing and mindful techniques, and, for me, Reiki is one of the most de-stressing and empowering things we can do for ourselves.
People ask me all the time what Reiki can do for them, sometimes they are sceptical and sometimes they are just curious. Of course, there is a long history that I could share but I suspect that most people just want to know exactly what to expect in a session and the answer to that all important question. What can it do for me?
Simply put, Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, balance and flow, reduces stress and anxiety and contributes to our overall personal wellness.
We all need to take time to help us cope with the demands of modern life and Reiki can support us emotionally and mentally. It is thought that one hour of Reiki is equivalent to the healing power of four hours of sleep!
