Through the eyes and imagination of a child the world of work can look intriguing and exciting. How does the reality measure up?
Suddenly you’re an adult and you look around at your life and your career, and you wonder how you ended up in a job that doesn’t suit or fit you. The reality of working life often bears little resemblance to all those dreams. Maybe very few get to be astronauts or actors but isn’t it surprising that so many people find themselves in jobs that they can barely tolerate. Jobs that fall so far short of those long held dreams and ambitions.
What about you?
Do you spring out of bed in the morning to go to work or, do you plod on from year to year looking forward to the weekend, the next holiday, Christmas…………? All the time dreaming of that brilliant job that’s going to land in your lap any day now. Are you putting your life on hold? Truth is, it’s not enough to dream, everyone can dream but very few people can turn those dreams into concrete reality. If you want to get that job you need to put your plan in place, you need to work at it.
To start with, learn all you need to know about you, your strengths and weaknesses and have a long, hard think about the job you want to be doing six months from now. Be calm and positive, objective and not emotional and begin to plan your steps.
Make this the year you move into the job of your dreams.
