This time last year you were determined that you wouldn’t spend another year in this job and that by the time December came round again, you’d be happily settled in your new career. But, here you still are, and you tell yourself you’ve failed.
There are always plenty of reasons why it’s not the right time to make that change and the excuses come thick and fast:
- You’re no good at interviews.
- You’re used to the job and the routine.
- You’ve already booked next year’s holidays… what if you changed job and couldn’t get the time off?
- You’ve made friends here and we all know that misery loves company, right?
- You know the job inside out and are worried about learning new skills.
What would happen if you decided never to listen to those excuses again? Ever?
What if you decided that this was as good a time as any to finally begin to move towards that new job you have been talking about for so long?
One of the main reasons that people give for not making that change is based on fear. What if I make that move and it feels like I’ve jumped out of the frying pan straight into the fire? But, what if it doesn’t feel like that at all and you are happier at work than you’ve ever been, just because you made that change?
If you really feel that Christmas isn’t the right time for you to make that change, why not promise yourself that you’ll make a start as soon as those decorations are down and safely stored away for another year?
Over the next few months I’m going to be posting a guide to finally making that move towards the job of your dreams.
